I am a greenie who is working on an access 97 database which is split on a network. The specific problem I am running into is that as I change the front end applications in 97, I have to then try to open the database on a 2000 machine as administrator and hit "don't convert" before any user with 2000 can open the application. The end users don't have the appropiate permissions to upgrade the database (which is good!!), so they just get an error message stating that they don't have permission to convert. Since I am using 9 different front end applications, the process of making changes in 97, then opening them all in 2000 so I can select "don't convert" is quite a process to do 3 times a day. I'm looking for a way to either automate this process, or automatically force the database to not convert when opened in 2000. Ideally I would be able to do this without much input required from the end users, as they consist of varying skill levels...I don't want an option they can mess up!

Thanks in advance

If you have a mixed environment of Acc97 and 2000, make sure that your back end database is in Acc97. Then, both Acc97 and Acc2K applications can open it without any problems. If the back end database is in Acc2K, you must convert it to Acc97.

Cheers

The backend is in 97, the problem is coming from the fact that the front-end applications are in 97, because we have both 97 and 2000 users who need to access the same application. Upgrading a copy of each application to 2000 will force me to make 2X as many changes as I upgrade the application
