I'm running a Beta copy of Access 2010 to set up a contact database for the firm I work for (We'll all be upgrading to 2010 when its released).

The last time I used Access was about 15 years ago and I need to refresh my skills! I was looking at books but of course nothing out yet for 2010! is it simular enough to Access 2007 so I can work from that version to pick it up?

Also any tips on good books are welcome.

Thanks

There are tons of good references available free on the web, and of course plenty of good books as well. I'd recommend bookpool.com for looking for any tech books, but they went under last year. [sad]

You could check Amazon for some reviews of books regarding Access, that could offer some help, b/c specific reviews on specific books.

I've kept (though now old) coppies of a series of books by Sybex on my desk now for quite some time. The are:
Access 2002: VBA handbook
Access 2002: Access 2002 Desktop
Access 2002: Access 2002 Enterprise

I used to find more help in them before, than I do now, but they have proven to be good references through the years.

Obviously, working with Access 2007 should give you what you need. On the other hand, if you're going to use Office 2010 in your office when it comes out, why not just work solely in Access 2010? That way you'll be 100% compatible. It's free for anyone to download while in Beta, anyway... or I guess it still is.

and how about all the MS Access Forums in Tek-Tips? Did you look in any of them?

KJV1611,

Thanks for the comments, I don't have any version of access at current but will have Office pro 2010 when is released so hence the Beta Copy to get me used to it! As I'm pretty much learning from scratch I thought a book would be a good start. hence my question if Access 2007 was simular enough to pick up a book for that (to which I could use in 2010 to get me started).

Skip,

I did have a quick look but I dont have specific enough questions yet as I'm still getting used to navigating the product. I dont want to start off with posting silly questions like how to I link two tables, change format of a field and stuff like that because I dont want to hassle everyone with that sort of stuff! Trust me I'll have plenty of questions once I can get the basics right!

I dont like to be a pain and I'm sure everyone else would be a little happier!

So if 2007 is very simular to 2010 I'll get a book at get the basics right! I dont want to be a complete pain in the ****

Thanks once more!

Oh, and as far as finding information around here, you can just use the Search tool at the top. The Google search tool works particularly well.

Sorry folks,

I just want to know if Access 2007 is simular enough to Access 2010 for me to buy a book on it... so I can get started then put some 'proper' questions forward.

Thanks
