Hi All,

How can we get Access 2010 to open with an empty pane (ie: no Available Templates, Office.com Templates, Recent files, etc.)

We are deploying new workstations with Access 2010 on them. The apps themselves are in Access 2000, with Access workgroup security. Everything so far is working fine, hovever if a user selects "Cancel" from the Logon popup window, they are presented with the Access 2010 fully outfitted desktop. In Access 2002, it would give them a blank Access desktop, so they would just choose the Top righthand corner "X" to close. There's a bit too much exposure here and this leads to vulnerbility. Controlling the actions of about 50 users in this situation is quite daunting, and the thought of what our Citrix users might get up to is, well, let's not go there [nosmiley]

If anyone knows how we can attain a hollow shell or better still have it close the Access window completely if the Cancel button in the Access Logon popup window is clicked, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Lori

What I have done in Access 2010 natively in the past <code at previous contract job :( >

Change the file type to a runtime type. (accdr).

Make a custom ribbon with the start from scratch option and only make a quick access toolbar.

Load the custom ribbon.

Set the startup key property of the database to no (have to create but that has been around for a very long time if not forever).

In my case I had a SQL Server backend so I had sql functions to handle my authentication and I used DSN less connecions and compiled code to obfuscate the password in code.

That said... You may need to to test the version of Access you are in and conditionally handle the ribbon.

Hopefully that is enough to at least get you started looking...

Another thought I think there is a docmd method that can be used to turn off the toolbar...

docmd.ShowToolbar

I remember it is idiosyncratic somehow... I think you have to past the would be connection constants as strings that are the names of the variables... poke around with it in a Macro to get the right parameters.

Sorry I don't have specifics, I have Access 2007 and I'd have to reinvent the wheel so to speak....

Please post back with issues or success.
