I have a password protected Access database created in 2007. I then later upgraded and am now usind Access 2010 Professional on Windows 7.

I am trying to remove the password protection with:
1. Open db in exclusive
2. go to info
3. The next instruction MS gives is to click on decrypt database.

However no such button appears. I get a "compact and fix" button and an "encrypt" button. That's it.

When I first open the db in exclusive mode, it asks me for my password and opens up with no problems when I enter it.

Can anywone help me with this problem? How do I recover the decrypt database button? Is there a workaround?

Thanks for your help.

I've never needed to do this myself, but it looks like you're doing it correctly, according to this walkthrough:

If you're able to get into the database, but cannot access the decrypt option, I'd personally try to fix it one of two ways:

First, make a backup before doing either of these, just in case one goes wrong.

Option1: Create a new database, and import all the database objects from the encrypted database - assuming this is possible with an encrypted database.

Option2: (This is totally just a guess on my part, but I'd be curious to see if it works): Open the encrypted database, enter your password to get in, of course. Since you don't see the decrypt option, try clicking "Encrypt..", and then give it a new password... then compact and repair the database, and try entering the new password once the database has reopened. Then see if you get the "Decrypt.." button in Backstage (File Menu).
