Access 2007 can't import from Acc or Excel, its grayed out

I am trying to learn Access 2007 and in the step by step book it say
Click External Data Tab and in the import group click Access icon, but both it and the Excel icon next to it are grayed out.
I created a new blank db but no go either.
is there a setting in the Access Options I'm missing or?

In the Access Options | Current Database are any ribbon toolbar options unchecked? How about checking trust center settings to see if the data sources are in a trusted location & signed by a trusted publisher?

All I ask is a chance to prove that money can’t make me happy.

I tried it later after this post maybe the next day and it worked just fine. I created a new database just now and the options are working now too.
I have no idea what was wrong other than a glitch in Access.
