Does Access 2003 take longer time to load than Access 2000?

I am talking about a mdb file with only tables in it. When I used Access, the database file was open with no time (less than 1 second). But now it takes about 4-5 seconds to open a database file, and I am using a faster computer.

I have not find any information on it through Google.

Any inputs are appreciated.

Sorry, my mistake.

Actually, the database file is openned pretty fast, IF there is no other Access 2003 running.

If you're opening through Windows Explorer I think Windows attempts to open the file in the currently running instance of MS Access. If that already has a database open it will then launch a new instance.

For some reason it takes a little while for the Operating System to work out instance one is already occupied and opens up a second instance.

Do you have multiple versions of Access on that machine?

Are you opening the .mdb by double-clicking on it? Or are you opening a blank instance of Access 2003 then choosing the .mdb file? Or double-clicking on a shortcut with a hardcoded path to a specific MSAccess.exe with a target .mdb argument?

I ask this because if you have two or more versions of Access on the machine, opening a different version from the last opened version causes OS to first check the registry for the CurrentVersion of Access. If it's different from the last opened version, the OS does some on-the-fly registry hacking and changes the current version (which dynamically changes the icons in all your .mdb files to the icon of the new current version), amongst other things. Sometimes you'll get a dialog that say's "Please wait while Office initializes..." or something like that, but sometimes there's no dialog--just a delay.
