I've lost the ability to enter text into label fields associated with control boxes when I drop a field onto a page in a form, the label box is blank. Likewise, if I create a label from the toolbox, the label back color or background is the page back color of background and when I click on the rectangle it disappears, what setting(s) to I edit to regain the ability to edit label?

Thanks, Ed

Thanks for the question. I edited the properties as you requested and changes in the fore and background colors were reflected on the form but the caption still did not appear. The fore color on all label controls is the same as is the background color.

It's really weird. It's not just a particular label control, it's all label controls added to any page on the 5 page form but the captions for the text boxes are visible. It's a real form development stopper. And yes, Visible is "Yes"

Thanks again,

Ed

I welcome any suggestions.

I really don't understand what you are doing. If you add a label control to a form and don't immediately enter a caption, I believe it goes away. If you type something in, it should 'stick'.

Does this behaviour happen in every MDB and every form? How about reports?

Is this a typo:

The fore color on all label controls is the same as is the background color.

If it's not then I'd suggest therein lies the problem.

JB

It's a typo it should read "is not the same"

When I drag a field from the file list onto the form, the label is blank, it does not contain the name of the field as the text box contains the field name.

It's really weird to drag a field onto the form and the label box is blank.

Thanks for your help,

Ed

You might have set the caption property of the field in the table design to something like a single space or zero-length-string.

Does this happen with every table? Have you tried creating a new table and trying this?

First, Duane thanks you for sticking with me on this.

I cannot find a property that sets caption length. I've looked for that since Saturday.

If i create a new form in the same database, the problems does not appear. Likewise a new table a new form, the problem does not appear. If a copy this form to another form the problem remains. The problem appears when I drag a field onto the header/footer area of the form.

Hence, a reasonable conjecture would be that there s a setting limiting the length of the Caption field. I searched for a setting that could set the Caption field length and have been unable to locate such a setting.

If it is on one of the form property tabs is .NOT. FOUND().

Thanks, again for you suggestions,

Ed

In your table design, you can set field properties such as the field caption. Find it and see if you can fix it. I never put anything in this property since it generally causes more issues than it fixes.

The only setting I can find in table design is a field to enter a Caption other than the default caption for the label. I cannot find any setting that setting for the caption length of a label. NOTE: The problems appears when I create a label. If the is a label setting in table design where is it? Where is it?

Thanks,

Ed

There is no caption length property. There is only a caption property. Find it and see if it contains a space or a zero length string? Try to paste the actual field name into the caption property and see if that fixes your problem.

I tried that before I created this thread. The text in th caption does not appear in design or form view. I just will have to create the form from scratch. UGH. Thanks for your patience and help Duane.
