Access 2003 app with Vista?

My employer has an Access 2003 App that runs just great on Windows XP with either Access 2003 runtime or the retail version of Access that comes with Office 2003 Pro.

Unfortunately, when we install the same App on a Vista machine with EITHER Access 2003 Runtime OR Office 2003 Pro installed, it simply will not start. Vista just says there was a problem with the Access app and it won't start. Vista update always says we have all the latest updates.

Anyone have a clue about this?

Many thanks for all kind responses.

it's been a while since I've played with Vista, but I believe there's a setting in Control Panel (or whatever they're calling it now) that adjusts security for different programs. My apologies for being so vague, I don't have a vista machine in front of me to play with. Vista is so security-conscious that it will block just about anything that tries to run without your permission.

OR - you could just downgrade vista to XP... from what I've seen of Vista, I'm less than impressed. :)

Your problem is with Vista and its file structure, which is totally different than previous versions of Windows. I suggest if you want a runtime that will work with Vista check out Sage Key for one that works. We use Access 2000 and our apps run on Vista with their script. I have NO affiliation with Sage Key, and I am just explaining what's going on.

Vista wants your files stored in a hidden folder called C:\ProgramData your old runtime installs all the support files in all the wrong places.

Life's a journey enjoy the ride...

I have Access 2003, MSDE and a bunch of Active X controls.

I just installed it on vista. And I haven't had problems yet. Even considering MSDE is not supported. Just like with how many users can use msde, this is a vauge term. They should have said: Unsupported but works.

However I'm looking on here and across the web to find problems that are listed.

My overall impression is that vista is horrible.
Reasons (in no order)

1. Has a learning curve.
2. You have to reduce all of the visuals to get a decent comparison to XP.
3. The visuals are annoying and not visually impressive.
4. The only way to get things done is to turn off the security.
5. There is no overt benefit to Vista, only hidden benefits, that i have yet to discover.
