I have five users who want to share an Access 2002 database on a network drive. When they try to open it, it comes up with a couple of prompts. The first is the usual "Some files can harm your computer, open or cancel". If you reply 'Open' it then fails with a
Code:
[b]Microsoft Access cannot open this file.[/b]

This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open the file due to potential security problems.

To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network drive
Well, it's on 'an accessible network drive', otherwise they wouldn't be able to try to open it. Copying it to the local PC defeats the object of sharing it.

So I've got three questions, really:

[ol][li]Does Access 2002 support sharing MDB files at all? The MS help site implies that it does in the latest release, but is unclear about 2002[/li][li]Is there a setting I can use to allow it?[/li][li]Our infrastructure team are pretty paranoid, and the desktop PCs are heavily locked down. Maybe it's something outside of Access altogether, like security access permissions[/li][/ol]

Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome.

Looks like a strong candidate. Sadly, the PCs are locked down to the point where we can't modify the Internet Options without the help of an administrator, so this will probably take a few days to resolve rather than the 20 seconds it ought to take. I suspect that we aren't allowed to run with scissors, either...

Thanks for this. I'll report back with the results.

:-D

I hope you don't end up on the naughty step.

All sorted. Cheers, Remou, have a star...
