Access 2000 workgroup password problem

I am working with Access 2000 on Win NT. I created a new workgroup but did not assign password to Admin.
I get the message "Not a valid password" when I try to open the database. I don't get a logon screen so I can not enter a password even if I wanted to. I am identified as user Admin. Why no logon screen? How did the password get set? Thanks.
