OK, here's the deal. We have only one system that's running both Access 2000 and Windows 2000. When the user tries to open a dadtbase, whether with a shortcut or through Explorer, the installer runs and a "this file has no program associated with it" error pops up. If they open Access first, then open the database, it opens just fine. Any ideas? I'll post more info if needed...

Thanx

You could try and poke around in the registry to see what's wrong and correct it... or just try reinstalling office2k

Why don't you just link the file type to Access?

Thanks for the replies, guys. I've re-installed Office before, to no avail. I've also tried re-associating the files, still no luck. Any ideas on what registry keys to play around with?

Hi

We have this problem frequently in our training office. It can happen if office 2000 is installed without previously uninstalling office 97 first, or if you upgrade office 2000 with office 2000 service release 1.

We have found the only way to resolve this is to completely uninstall office using uninstall progs (make sure your email post office or personal email folders are backed up to a safe location if you use Outlook). After you have done this you will typically still find most of the Microsoft Office Directory, complete with loads of files that were not deleted. We then completely delete the Microsoft Office directory and all the sub-folders. After this, get hold of the regclean.exe tool from the Microsoft download site and follow the instructions. This should scan the registry and clear out any stray files. It automatically stores a backup of the registry changes that it makes and gives you a report. I tend to reboot the PC and run it again. After this, install your Office software again, and hopefully this will cure the problem. Remember if you add or remove any office components in the future, make sure you use the same software version.

Hope this helps.

PS Watch out if you have Internet Explorer 6 installed - we have occasionally found problems re-installing office 2000 components with this version of explorer, as there is an earlier version supplied with office 2000 Premium.
