I am looking at upgrading from Access 97 to 2000. I remember reading somewhere that there is an important difference in the handling of multiuser applications, but I don't recall the details. Can anyone fill me in?

Thanks.

You get to use access as a front end to a sql server database and all the problems that access databases have with multiple users just melt away. There's also another engine you can use which is a halfway house between jet & sql server (MSDE) but it can only cope with databases up to 2GB.
