Greetings,

I have an odd problem. Since last September, I've had three Access 2000 databases linked to SQL 7.0 databases without too many problems expect the speed issue.

All of the sudden, literally, when the users are in the database the stupid connect window pops up. They put in the correct username and it goes away and everything is fine, but how odd to just start doing this. The other two databases are not having this problem.

I've relinked the specific table, re-created the ODBC connection, but when I look at the table properties on the description line where the connection info is, the username is not specified like it is in all of the other links.

What could cause this and only in this database?

going crazy. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm afraid I can't help you with your query but (rather cheekily) I thought you may be ably to help me with my problem ... please see the thread about setting up System DSN posted 20th April 2002 and security issues. I reckon the answer must be very straightforward but I cannot see the wood for the trees.

yes, i have the same problem. we upgraded our data base to the next version so i had to redo the ODBC connection. Now, the connect window pops up everytime the Access program is used. They put in the password (the username is already there) and it goes away and everything is working the way it used to. but it would be nice to save the user some keystrokes and just go on her merry way. what happened... does anybody know?

i forgot to ask you if you have solved the speed issue. we also have the same problem.

Had a similar problem with a mas90 ODBC connection. Made it go away by putting a password in the connection string or in the ODBC connection itself. It would also be possible to set the ODBC to use windows authentication (assuming the db is set up for that).

The Windows authentication is possible. What do I need to do to set up the database for that? If you could just point me in the right direction, I mean... Thanks.

Alright, I wasn't exactly clear on this myself but using SQL Server Enterprise Manager...

1. Under the server goto folder "security" -> "Logins"
2. Right click and add new login
3. When window pops up, type in user name and specify windows authentication.

If you are doing this through the command line <shudder>, let me know and I will do a little more poking around. (If you happen to figure it out let me know).

No command line, what you gave me is great. It might solve the problems we've been having. For some reason, when I link the tables in Access, the password doesn't come through in the command line. I actually have a module that will relink the tables with whatever info I want, but these particular databases link from more than one database, so it doesn't work. Thanks for the help!!
