I just got a new computer that came loaded w/ Office XP. Our Department is running Office 2000 and 97. I have created a database in Access 2000 format, but am unable to create a 2000 MDE file. Is there any way to do this without converting to Access 2002 first. If not is my only option to remove XP and load 2000 back on???

Thanks in advance,

Phil

You cannot convert a 2000 to an MDE in 2002. You either convert it to 2002 format then make an MDE or you make the MDE in 2000 and then open it in 2002 - but in 2000 format.
Sounds strange when written down but that's how I find I have to do it.

it seems like a pointless exercise to convert it to a mde file if you are running it on a machine that only has Access 2002. No one is going to be able to edit the file unless they convert it anyway. I do not understand the purpose of converting a file that can not be edited. If you are worried that someone might convert it to edit it put a block on the shift key so that they carnt get into it.
