System = Windows 2000-based dual Gigahertz processor server
Program = Access 2000

Situation: Two programmers working on the same database on a network server... Both programmers are getting the error "You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time"

Anybody know about this? Have suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Roy,

This is new in Access 2000.

You can't make design changes to the back-end (tables) of an Access 2000 database without opening the database exclusively. Also, if the front-end is shared on a network server rather than each user having a copy on their computers you can't make design changes to the front-end either (unless opened exclusively).

So if you're dealing with the back-end on the network, you'll have to open it exclusively in order to make changes. Actually that change makes a lot of sense.

And if you have a shared front-end on a server, I'd recommend dropping that plan and place a copy of the front-end on everyone's PC. Or open the front-end exclusively.

HTH
