LambertH's solution will work but, respectfully, is uneccesary. We've been converting dozens of MS Access 2.0 applications bypassing the MS Access 97 step altogether.
I'm assuming you've got a copy of MS Access 2000 available. Using MS Access 2000, open your version 2.0 applications. Access 2000 will recognize the 2.0 version and ask you if you wish to convert. Just click OK.
Another way is to open MS Access 2000, click on Tools in the menu bar, then Database Utilities/Convert Database/ to current Access database version... then select the version 2.0 application.
If the process completes but indicates that it will be left uncompiled, you'll need to get into a code window and Compile. This last step will take you to the unrecognized syntax and you'll have to update.
You will need to save the converted db to a different folder/directory if you wish to keep the same name.
You'll find no difference in either conversion process except the extra time it takes using MS Access 97.
