I'm trying to print a page containing accented characters. The page prints correctly when I print out on my HP1300 Laserjet, but not when I print out on my other Hewlett Packard printer which is an HP1200 Laserjet.

Any ideas why this is?

I'm using a piece of software which, I'm told by the manufacturer, gets its fonts from the printer (and NOT from Windows). I'm a little confused about this. Why should this make any difference?

Any ides on how I can print the accented characters on my HP1200 Laserjet?

Thanks,
May

What this probably means is that the application knows which fonts are available on the different printer types and (for the fonts it thinks are printer resident) just sends the appropriate font selection sequence to the device; for fonts which it thinks are not resident, it will create & download a soft font to the device.

Having said that, I would guess (not knowing much about either of these printers) that the set of fonts on the two devices is almost certainly the same, so why the difference?

Perhaps the application is sending incomplete font selection sequences; in particular, it may be omitting to send the required Symbol Set selection sequence. If this is the case, then the symbol set used will be as set in user preferences on the printer itself, and if the two devices have different settings, that would explain the difference in output.

I presume you are using some application that runs in a DOS box under windows. Often when printing such jobs several adjustments has to be made to the printer fx. margins width or the page length. Another thing is the font or perhaps symbol set. If they differer on the two printers, the printers will respond different to the same job. Try make a testpage on both and compare their settings to get a clue of where the sollution would be. Else you would wanna ask your software vendor what specific font is being used. If a specific font is required, you can then send the font as a file to the printer in a socalled PJL/PCL file. This file can also be called from a batch file at bootup of the PC if you don`t wanna load it manually into the printer each time you need this special font.
