On two separate PC's with Office 97 installed, one with Win 98 and one with Win2K, I am getting the same problem. In Access 97, when I select "Help/Contents & Index", I get the following error "Help isn't available due to a lack of memory or improper installation of Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Access."

All other functions of Access work fine and the install program shows help as being installed. The Access .hlp files are in place and double-clicking the actual *.hlp file in Explorer will launch Access help. All other Office programs work fine, including their help function. Memory is 128MB in both machines and is not an issue.

Try reinstalling your help files. Probably some link has been lost for some reason or another and you're getting a nonsensical error message. Reinstalling the help file may re-establish the link or whatever it is you're missing.
