HI.

I'm having problems running AcadR14 on an XP pro computer with ADLM network "floating" license.
"FATAL ERROR: Security system(hardware lock or network license) is not functioning or is improperly installed"

Here are more details:

I manage a small network with NT server and Win98 workstations.
The server is running ADLM for Acad R14 network license.
TCP/IP is working fine in the network with DNS, WINS, DHCP services on the NT4 SP6a PDC server (which is also the ADLM license server).
The server and workstations are all on the same phisical subnet (no routers between).

I have added a new Windows XP Pro computer (new hardware and clean OS install, drive C is using NTFS file system).
I have added the XP workstation to the NT domain.
I logged in to the XP with administrator permissions.
I have installed AcadR14 on the workstation using the normal (not automated) setup, selected "custom" and rebooted it after installation as requested.
There were no errors during installation.

When I try to start AcadR14 I get this error:
"FATAL ERROR: Security system(hardware lock or network license) is not functioning or is improperly installed"
The message appears imidietly when starting Acad, there is no delay. I think that this indicates that the workstation is not even trying to access the ADLM server.

All other Win98 workstations are working fine.
I have enough licenses - it happens even when other workstations are not using the licenses.
Someone told me to download the latest sentinel drivers from rainbow web site but it did not help, I think that they are only for hardware locks which I don't have.

I have looked at the Event Viewer of the XP workstation but did not find relevant errors.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Yizhar,

so you're saying that you DONT have hardware lock? That is what the Rainbow Sentinel drivers are for, so they wont work if you downloaded them....

I dont actually know, but I wonder if ACAD14 will run on WinXP????

I have never come across it, wonder if anyone in this forum is...??? Jay~

My new Tae Kwon Do website is up and running!!

It sounds like your workstation does not know which server it should be talking to.

Try setting the ACADSERVER variable.

I don't know how it's done in Windows XP (I'm too scared to try new Microsoft OS's until a Service Pack appears), but the instructions for Windows 2000 are on the Autodesk support site. Try searching for "Setting the ACADSERVER variable under Microsoft® Windows 2000" on

Two other things - Autodesk haven't stated that AutoCAD 14 is compatible with Windows XP, and an any case R14 is retired in mid January 2002
