Hi Dave,
pls forgive me for the barbaric use of this forum.... just to ask you something about Utah.
As I have already said in a previous post, I will be in USA in September for the my honeymoon.
I would like to visit some National Park around Kanab.
Have you some good advice for me?
Thanks in advance

PLEASE HELP A FELLOW DBA TO HAVE A DECENT STAY IN USA!

I'm not Santa but here is a my two bits, Grand Canyon is OK but Zion is better and my favorite is Bryce. The colors, esp. after a rain, in Bryce will blow you away.

Thanks 2ffat!
So, do you suggest to take an Hotel (for 2 days only) in Kanab or directly in Zion (having in mind that, after those 2 dayes, I have to take a plane in Las Vegas to go to Los Angeles)?

Sorry, we've always camped while we were there. I've stayed in a hotel in southern Utah. If Zion is like any of the other parks, I suspect that Zion is booked a year in advance. Good luck getting anything there.

sbix, if you are going to Utah's Canyonlands, then you shouldn't miss any of those places, but if you must choose because of time, then I'll defer to James's assessments as far as the priority of the parks to see.

You are choosing one of the perfect times of the year to visit that area...the temperatures are becoming nice in September, and if it is later in September, then you are approaching the "colours" of the trees starting to turn.

The one thing that I would recommend is instead of using Kanab as your base of operations, use St. George, instead. Their is more civilisation there, hotels, food, and petrol are less expensive for the same quality, and you will be 1.5 hours to Las Vegas instead of 3 hours to Las Vegas, while nearly the same distance to all of the parks you wish to see.

My sister is an Estate Agent in St. George and can give you all of the particulars about staying in St. George. She can even probably arrange a car rental (at a big discount) from the Las Vegas Airport (since her son is an agent for Enterprise Car Rental).

Just contact me via my signature for more information.

Correction:
I've stayed in a hotel in southern Utah.
Should have been "I've NOT stayed in a hotel in southern Utah."

St. George also has some interesting landmarks, too.

Santa,
thanks a lot for the advice and help.
I would like to contact you... but it's impossible to read your signature by accessing this forum via web.... or.... better.... it's impossible to me

I gave a look to the maps... Santa you are unbelievable... as like as Santa Claus indeed!
I need your sister e-mail ASAP! I am going to contact my travel agency to cancel the reservation for the hotel in Kanab!

Sbix, I spoke with my sister about your plans. She has some absolutely amazing ideas...a beautiful, rustic hotel with horseback riding, hiking, massages (single or couples), haute cuisine, and many other wonderful ammenities for a honeymoon couple. The hotel is very near to all of the Utah Canyonlands parks.

Her descriptions of the lovely accommodations made me want to make reservations for my 33rd wedding anniversary this November. Last year for our anniversary, I took my wife to St. George...This year, maybe I'll go pick her up. [rofl]

I'm surprised that you are having problems reaching me via my signature, at Dasages.com -- Many other Tek-Tipsters contact me via that address regularly. (I'd put the address here, but Dave Murphy, our Fearless Leader at Tek-Tips does not want us to list e-mail addresses in Tek-Tips forums.) To foil Internet e-mail crawlers, I'll list my address in this fashion: "Dave at Dasages dot com."

This place may or may not be honeymoon material, but we stayed there on our cross-country move this January. For the price, the best place--by far--we stayed for the entire trip (we were on a slim, military-funded budget).

The jacuzzi suite was nice after several days of driving and the pool and laundry were welcome amenities after being on the road for several days. My son's first swim was at this pool. I think we paid around $70. That was for the jacuzzi suite, for one night.

Like I said, maybe not honeymoon material, but certainly a nice, clean place to stay in that general area. Also, there is a cool little mom-and-pop burger joint downtown I believe it was called Mel's Drive Inn. I had a blackberry (if memory serves me right) shake that was awesome, and the burger was quite good too.

BTW- Congratulations!

Yes, Gooser, there are many budget-friendly places to stay in Southern Utah that are proximate to the National Parks that feature our lovely Red-Rock natural wonders, including the place you mentioned in Beaver, Utah. My only problem is trying to keep a straight face every time I drive through a town (and its county) named Beaver...And you, Gooser, of all people, should know what fun people can have with such "interesting" names. (You're just lucky that your parents didn't officially name you that.)

Yes, but...

Who doesn't want to spend a little time in Beaver, on their honeymoon?

I just meant it's a beautiful little place, nestled in the valley, that's all.

Down boy!!

Santa - a star for your efforts here, pal.

I find a little irony in 'Santa' keeping track of the naughty boys and girls!

...he's making a list, he's checking it twice...

Bucksnort, TN my perrenial favorite. Especially since there is nothing there but a gas station and a dirty book store.
