Absolute beginner - can I retrieve web part code from the server?

Hi all,

My project manager has asked me to look at Sharepoint and try and make some changes to a site they use. I have loaded the site template in and know what features of the web part I want to change.

However, I don't have the code that created the web part. Can I retrieve it from the server? The url of the file I want is <basesite>/projectstemplate/Lists/tester/AllItems.aspx but I can't find the file on the actual server.

You might be able to export the webpart to a .dwp. Then possibly change the extension to a .cab and within there it should be all XML.
