Absence Request and Vacation Workflow customization

Hi,

I sucessfully have installed the template, which works ok. I had a request to have the workflow work a certain way, but i cannot find the proper way to do it. I obviously use Sharepoint Designer to modify the workflow.

What i'm trying to do is to automatically reject a vacation request if someone else already has booked the day off.

So if on monday morning Employee A books the friday off, the manager approves the request, the vacation gets booked. Tuesday morning Employee B tries to book the friday off, he get automatically rejected by the system telling him someone already have booked the day off, without having the manager to provide any input.

Can this be done?

We struggled with this as well, in a different way. I beg the question, what if employee B has a more compelling reason to be off than employee A? Or could they both be off on the same days? We ended up letting the managers make the call and not auto reject. So this isnt an answer to your question, but more of a challenge to see if you thought this through before you go down that path.
