The customary method for transmitting a username and password when using FTP protocol within a browser is to type the URL in this manner:

ftp://username:password@ftp.example.com

In this case, the "username" and "password" become part of the URL that you type. Anonymous FTP is generally taken care of by the browser, but the FTP server may sometimes require a verifiable email address as the password for "anonymous" so you may need to use the full URL above even for some anonymous FTP sites.

Additionally, PLEASE understand that this username/password will remain in your browser's URL cache (drop-down list) and will allow others to easily view this information by opening your Recent sites cache.
