First, sorry if this post shouldn't be here, but as I didn't found any "General RAID" forum, I've decided to ask here. I'm thinking about building a file server for my home, for using with mediacentre and storing music, pics, videos, etc. Is RAID-5 a good choice for it?

Second, if I, for example, start my raid with 4 200Gb HD's and later on, let's say a few months later, I reallize that I need more space, can I just add a new 200Gb drive? Or will I've to rebuild all the RAID, loosing data?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is the wrong place.

1. Yes, raid 5 is the best choice for you. good in price/performance.

2. it depends on the hardware/software you use. some arrays can do it, others no... that's a manufacturer capability.

Cheers.
