Hi,

I am working on the book cover image (2400 dpi) with photoshop. According to my client's specifications, minimum line per inch (lpi) is 825 lpi. But when I looked at photoshop help menu, 177lpi is listed for high quality printing. I am confused. Any idea why the client would specify such a high lpi?

I hope this doesn't sound brash, I don't mean it to be but have you asked your client?

I don't blame you for being confused. For most print applications, 177 lpi is considered very high, about 150 lpi would be fine. In my experience, 825 lpi is unheard of. Mind you, so is 2400 dpi if it's being printed offset, with about 300 dpi being considered normal. Do they have plans to enlarge it for posters or something? It sounds to me like your client has read some specifications somewhere, and didn't really understand them....
