Hi ,

I want to buy a new laptop but I'm little confused about some features of them. Maybe someone can explain me:

1. wireless LAN 802.11 b/g or only b. Which is the difference? If I have cable Internet must I buy an Wireless Access Point(Put the cable in him) and a USB bluetooth dongle(put into USB -PC) to get access to Internet ?

2.Some laptops have Wireless LAN PRO/wireless 220 BG. It's another standard ?
3. Soem have 802.11 Mini-PCI card. This is acting only as an antenna ?
4. What is the difference between DVD-CDRW combo and DVD+/-RW Dual layer?

Thanks

1 - This is a built-in device. B is the older format, and G is newer and quicker. To connect to the Internet, you would need a WIFI Router.

2 - If you choose the WIRED route, then you will need some kind of connection to a WIRED ROUTER. You can use any LAN card, or USB or Bluetooth to connect

3 - That is an internal part that is removeable. Others are on-board, for the most part.

4 - Dual Layer writes on both sides of the disk, so you get twice the storeage. Blue-Ray is the newest technology.

1. b is slower than g. g should have a longer range than b. They are compatible with each other. You'll need a cable/DSL router to connect to the 'net - eg (for wireless)
2. Still compatible with the above.

3. No, this is an internal wireless adapter, the antenna is usually in the laptop lid (sometimes makes the range limited).

4. A DVD-CDRW will only read DVD's (and write/rewrite CD's), a DVD+/-RW Dual Layer will write/rewrite to both types of disc as well as play; the Dual Layer means it can write up to 8.6Gb of data to a suitable DVD blank.

So a Bluetooth Adapter - USB must be used only for PCs that doesn't have bluetooth ? In this way any PC with USB can be integrated in a wireless net ?

In this way any PC with USB can be integrated in a wireless net?". Dependent upon operating system. You're unlikely to get NT4 or WIN95 to work with USB, WIN98 may be ok if correct USB port dirvers available, and all fine business with W2K and XP.
