What I am referring to is have 3 slots and it is SDRAM PC 100, have 3 sticks 1 128mb stick and 2 64mb sticks, is there any gain in speed lets say if I installed the first slot with the 128mb stick and then the 2 64mb sticks? or did the opposite? Or does it really not matter which is installed? no gain in speed or performance? thanks for any info or advice anyone can give me on this issue!!

I have heard/read something about this but cannot remember what or if it matters?

It would make a difference if your MB that supported 'Dual Channel' RAM.
But since your MB is an older unit that uses SDRAM, it does not support that feature, and the RAM installation positions will have any effect on performance.
Unless, of course, one of the sticks is PC66.

franky,
The order in which you install the SDRAM sticks does not matter. What does is the quality (or latency) of each stick. If one is much poorer than the rest, all 3 will be affected and run at the higher latency setting - higher is worse.

Usually, the best approach in any kind of memory environment is to use identical sticks, whether it be SDRAM, DDR, or RDRAM.

At this point, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Your next upgrade will most likely include a new motherboard that supports DDR. DDR-II support is also not too far off from the horizon, with motherboard support expected by the end of this year.
