about:blank in the address bar of Internet Explorer 8 doesn't change

I am getting about:blank in the address bar, whenever a popup window appears, after I have asked to happen - the about:blank stays there and doesn't change. About a two weeks ago I had a virus in this computer, which was removed completely. I believe that the virus has made the popup windows appear with about:blank in the address bar. The Internet browser, which has the problem is Internet Explorer 8. Can someone please tell me how I can fix this?

You could reset i.e. to defaults, but you will lose any addins etc.
