Abnormally slow upgrade. 4

I have been working with IP Office for more than 10 years, and I’ve never had an upgrade process take so long...

Upgrading Essential Edition 8.1(64) to 11.0(849). Initially upgraded to 9.0, as per instructions. That went about as expected. However, upgrading to 11.0 took about 3-4 times as long as expected. The “backing up” stage took over an hour in itself. The uploading and completion seemed normal. However, once the avdcpb2.bin file appeared, I selected it and clicked UPGRADE again (this seemed normal, as it also occurred on my last upgrade to 11). Then the “backing up” process took another hour+ for this one file.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? AND does anyone have any idea what may have caused it?

Backing up being really slow (or failing) usually means one of the original 4GB SD cards. If so, start planning to replace with a new 8GB card if you want smoother upgrades.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.
 
It's usual that the two step upgrade takes really long. During normal operation IPO takes Backups of the system files (BINS) every night at 1am.
For me it looks like if those files are skipped during a normal upgrade because they are already present at the backup location.

If you do a two step upgrade using the wizard it skips the backup of those files during the first upgrade step. If you do the second step IPO will backup those files that are usually skipped.

Best is to recreate the SD card with the target release. Then replace the bin files with those of the intermediate release. Remount the card, reboot IPO, remove the card, replace the bin files again with those of the target release and reboot IPO again.

Thank you both for your input. These may have been contributing factors, but I also learned that my NIC card, in the laptop that I was using, was failing. I have replace the laptop. Now comes the task of moving files and installing apps/programs.

Currently experiencing the exact same issue, The upgrade from 9 to 10 was about the expected hour. Rebooted and verified phones were working again and started the 10 to 11 upgrade. That was two hours ago and it's just now hit the uploading phase. Backing up took over an hour. Good to know others see this and I'll look into the aforementioned items (SD card, network lines, etc) however doing the upgrade in person isn't an option so I can't do the SD swap ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
