Abnormal Programme Termination 1

Hi all,

I'm having problems with my Paint shop Pro 8, my PC crashed whilst I was using Paint shop and now when I open it the image I was working on is 'locked in' and preventing the programme from opening. The only way I can close it is to Control/Alt/Delete. I've tried reinstalling it but every time I reinitialise it up pops this locked image.

It works ok if I go in as the Administrator of the PC but not as the user, so it's a user based error.

Any help or advice other than throwing the pc at the wall would be greatly appreciated.

Try resetting PSP's registry.

Thanks for the prompt reply unfortunately I didn't get the option that you suggested. I did the Ctrl Alt and got the following options:

Reset File Location
Reset Workspace to default configuration
Reset dialog position and last used setting
Delete all cache files (Active caches rebuilt on restart)
Make all tool bars/palettes visible and on screen.

Unless I've misunderstood your instructions. To be honest I'm so frustrated by this that I tried all of the above, stupid thing to do probably suffice to say it's still there.

Oh, right... They changed the perfectly simple solution on version 7 for all these bugs to a set of options that might not work or that don't really give a clue of which one to choose.

I would have tried all of them myself as well because who knows what causes a registry issue with this program...
Unless you try them as both "user" and "administrator", but this is just a shot in the dark.

Hi JC,

I think I may have been able to overcome the problem. When open and locked the only way I could close the PSP programme was by using the Task Manager in doing this I noticed that the description of the task was not simple PSP but included an embedded temporary file (xxxxx.tmp).

I searched my computer for this file and deleted it, this removed the image that appeared on booting PSP but replaced it with the other image I was working on at the time.

I repeated the search and delete action for this temporary file and it no appears to be ok.

Fortunately it would seem that because I only had 2 images active at the time of the crash there was only 2 to delete.

Hopefully this info may come in useful should someone else have similar problem.

Anyway thanks for your help at least you got me thinking logically and not full of rage.

Hi John,
I'm glad you were able to figure this one out. I didn't know that a temp file could cause this mess in PSP - I'm even writing this one down for future references.
