Abnormal Program Termination w/ no rhyme or reason

I am running XP O/S and MS Access 2003 on a database stored on the network. For no apparent reason, Access has started throwing up error dialogs:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.exe
abnormal program termination

Clicking OK closes Access. I have tried Detect and Repair, but it has not cleared the problem.

There appears to be no common thread to what generates the error, though it may have something to do with closing a window. This has happened when closing a form design window, closing the VBE window, or even closing an open form. It hasn't happened for a report, yet, but I haven't been in reports that much.

I would appreciate anyone's comments regarding what might be happening and how I can get Access more stable.

Is the problem coming up in a database or an mde?
i've had weird errors before when one of my references becomes corrupt or the reference isn't on the machine on which the application is running.
Running the same thing through the actual mdb vs. the mde typically provides a much more useful error message.

Thanks for the quick response. I am working with the mdb.

The errors seem to be somehow related to the VBE. The error occurs after I've been there. I can't say for certain, but I believe that the VBE has been open in another window when these errors occur. The error also occurs (sometimes) when I first try to launch the VBE.

I have since found that these errors are not restricted to one database. I also get them in another when the VBE is used/invoked.

I also created a brand new dB. Then I immediately added an unbound form and tried to go to VBE. Again, I get the error.

I probably could re-install Access and hope that it corrects the errors, but I'm kinda hoping for a better (easier?) solution.

Search for the following words (together in one line with no quotes) in the Microsoft Knowledgebase -

abnormal program termination Access

You will get many possible solutions including Service Pack fixes.

Apart from Tek-Tips of course, which offers practical help on an individual basis drawing from many experienced users, Microsoft has published the Knowledgebase solution to help as well, and it is usually my first site to visit for unpexpected errors.

Thank you for your suggetion.
I have already searched many word combinations on the knowledge base without any success.

Then my suggestion is that you have other software which conflicts i.e. a DLL issue.

I have now re-installed Access and I still have the problem. If there was an offending DLL, wouldn't the re-install correct the problem?

The abnormal termination occurs when I go to the form's code in VBE from the form. If I go to VBE from a module, and then open the form's code, I don't get the error. That is, until I edit something in the form's code.

I certainly hope someone has an idea since I am now out of them.

Thanks in advance.

I am having the exact same problem with Word.
box shows up saying
runtime error
and abnormal program termination.
Only option is to click OK and page vanishes.

As per microsoft site I deleted temp folders.
but problem still exists.

Any solutions out there?
