We are moving Great Plains 8.0 from one SQL Server to another, and right now
the two computers have different machine names, and that is preferable
during our testing. However, when we are done testing, and ready to start
using the new SQL Server, can we change the Machine Name of the new SQL
Server to be the same as the old SQL Server? What effect would that have on
the Great Plains 8.0 that we are preparing on the new SQL Server?

You change the machine name of the server at any time. SQL Server 2000 should recognize the change. To verify, run the following to see what SQL is seeing as the machine name (machine name and sql server should be the same):

SELECT @@SERVERNAME

GP only uses an ODBC connection, so as long as its pointing to the correct server, you're fine.

Thank you, my friend... Did I see in another post you've been working with GP since 3.xx? Lots of water over THAT dam, huh?

Oh ya. There's nothing like ctree and faircom server, yikes.
