Hi,

I have an SQL 2000 Server running on Windows 2000 Server box. We just renamed the box and i need to add users to the SQL login section with new machine name and when i attempt to i get the folloiwng:

Error 15401: Windows NT user or group 'WPWKRIB00002041\swadmin' not found. Check the name again.

swadmin user was already setup under old machine name and is still there. If i add a new user to the machine and then add that user to the login section with the new machine name it works fine. It's just existing users that i am having issues with.

Any Ideas???

Thanks,
Scott

if they are local server accounts you will need to drop them and re-create them because the account sid on the server doesn't match the account sid in the master database.

so you mean drop the local accounts on the local box and then recreate them, then add them on the SQL side?

yes

does that include the SQLAgentService, SQLDebugger, and SQLServerService? These are all local to the machine...

No, don't delete those.
