Hi
We're getting this problem on an increasing number of our servers....

Server S-CSDMAIL1 halted Tuesday, 2 September 2003 12:03:45.920 pm Abend 2 on P00: Server-5.00k: Page Fault Processor Exception (Error code 00000000)

(can post more if required).

I've searched the NW TID's and the only thing I could find relates to versions of HTTPSTK.NLM prior to April 4 2002 which had a security flaw. Our versions are all Version 1.10 dated 21 June 2002 so I guess they must be OK. Wondered if anyone else had come up against this.
The weird thing is, that the "Outbound mail process" running process message even appears on servers that do not run GroupWise.
I'm wondering whether I should try rolling back to the older HTTPSTK.NLM mentioned in the TID's, or whether this will cause more troubles.

Affected servers are all Compaq Proliants with NW5.1 SP5 installed.

Many thanks for any help you can give
James

Hi James,

The posted abend is invalid since it is abend number 2 and the memory had already been corupted by abend number 1.

Please post abend 1 to determine the cause.

Lou

Thanks for your interest Lou

Here is an excerpt from an abend1 (from a different server though, but errors are generally the same on all the servers were having trouble with). Hope you can shed some light on the problem. Please let me know if you need me to post any more abend information.

Have a good weekend
James

Additional Information:
The CPU encountered a problem executing code in SERVER.NLM. The problem may be in that module or in data passed to that module by a process owned by HTTPSTK.NLM.

Hi James,

What service pack is the server at? From the abend you posted, you have a NetWare 5.0 server. If not already done so, apply SP6a first.

I was searching the Novell site for this issue and ran across a few fixes to Httpstk for NetWare 6 but none for 5. I would start by applying the latest patch on one server first and go from there.

Lou

They are definately NW5.1 servers even though the abend log entries say 5.0? As mentioned in the original post, the servers are all patched to SP5. To install SP6a on all the servers would be pretty time consuming (there are over 86 of them) so we were hoping to find a less involved solution.

Oh well, suppose 6a might be worth trying on one or two of them.

Thanks
James

We have over 350 NetWare 5.1 servers in our infrastructure but Novell will not provide support unless the latest patches are installed. You might want to test SP6a on a server that abends frequently to see if that resolves the issue, if it does you can think about installing SP6a on all of your servers.

this is where zen foe servers comes in

cant you push for upping to 6 or 6.5
it's a big improvement

never liked 5.1
5.0 was solid - 5.1 just wasnt as good
browser management and cron was nice though
