Today I found an abandoned KSU in ceiling. Who would have rights to it in California or Pursuant to NEC code of removal of abandoned cable. I am in California and if anyone knows the exact code I would appreciate it. New tenant did not know of KSU nor does he have the phones for it. Please help.

If it's abandoned, finders keepers, if the landlord does not want it.

As far as I know if you're a contractor working on an abandonment project it's standard contract language unless amended by the customer that anything removed as part of the abandonment project becomes the property of the contractor for disposal as they wish.

I work in healthcare. In both facilities and cable plant we refer to it as "demolition". We specifically amend the contract to say what items removed will be retained by the owner (usually fixtures, ceiling tile, tv mounts, intercom stations, etc we can reuse elsewhere) and the contractor has rights to the rest. Normally if you don't specify, the "salvage rights" belong to the contractor.

If it's abandoned, and you dont have a "demolish" contract of some sort, it would belong to the landlord of the building. Whether they know it's there or not is another story. Goto the office of the Building if you feel the need to get permission. You need to gut the terminal you have to put the new system into, right?!!??!!!
