Hi folks, I'm having a real dilema which I'm hoping someone here may have an answer to...

Essentially I've got around 25 computers in this company and none of them used to have any issues with Mailmerging. Recently however, a new computer and a freshly formatted one are giving me no end of grief!

What happens is that I go to load a Word Document on the network, which has fields in it linked to a Microsoft Access table. And this is where it it freeses- taking around 3 minutes to load the damn document and table!! I've downloaded patches aplenty, I've installed the service pack for Office 97, I've disabled the virus scanner, I've changed the data source method to DDE as opposed to ODBC (think that's the name for it) etc.

The two computers suffering the problem are both running Office 97, along with Windows 98, second edition. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

as a first step, try disabling ur anti-virus software and see if that makes a diff

Are you doing your maile merge from a Table or query in access? And if in a query, what type of Query, Select, Parameter, ect.?

sounds like a network problem to me.

are these two networked differently to the other pcs?

try copying the database locally and merging from there.

As an alternative, you may want to export the data from Access to a text file, then base the mail merge document in the text file. I've experienced the same problems so have switched to this other method myself.

I kind of agree with misterstick, except I'd be copying the Word doc to the local PC instead of the DB. And, it sounds like it's having a problem finding the DB. IMHO, it is less likely to be a connection problem as a FIND the data source problem.
