Our hard drive died a few weeks ago and luckily I already had a spare. I swapped drives and recreated all of our aa's and mailboxes. We have 2 departments that are separate. AA1 handles everything for dept 1 and AA2 handles everything for AA2. AA1 is answering the day and night menu's for it's lines. AA2 isn't doing anything.

How do I make dept2's lines ring to AA2? Right now when you call dept 2 the correct phones ring but then it goes to ext 772. When trying to access vm772 i can not make changes to it because i don't know the password. I have logged in as admin and reinitialized the password but it is not reset. I think I may be missing the boat here.

You should check to make sure that x772 is built as AA2 and not as a mailbox. If so then delete the box and build as AA2

Thanks. I have that but I also don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for. I have the Merlin Mail System Administration manual. I just looked through it again but I'm not seeing what you are referring to.

My confusion is I've never heard of ext 772. I didn't build it and I don't know how to build an extension as a AA. I've even tried going to AA1 and pressing 6 for line assignment, it doesn't apply to AA1 like it does on AA2. That may be the problem that AA2 is not assigned to a line.

If that is the case how do I determine what lines AA2 needs to be assigned to? I didn't set this up the first time so I don't know. I know what the phone number is for department2 (aa2) but I don't know what the line assignment is for that. Is there a way to review what lines in MM are assigned to what outside lines?

772 is a default group. You can print out group using winspm and you will find the group and membership. 772 is the extension number for the group.

By default 772 is not built as an auto attendant. You can make any extension including a group extension handle as a regular mailbox or as a auto attendant box. Look in you manual on how to assign an extension as a auto attendant.

Hint: From Admin box goto mailboxes and when it asks for extension number punch in 772. It will tell you nothing defined or it will tell you if it is a regular mailbox or AA. If is is a regular box then delete it. Punch 772 again and add it as AA2.

Not all numbers in a phone system belong to stations! Some are for lines/trunks, others are for different types of groups, (pickup, calling queues, features), access codes, etc.

The proper term is access code or directory number(DN)!
