In the Partner World, procedure #607. The book talks about an extension where Partner Attendants are connected to the system. #607 assigns an extension with this AA. Is the AA they are talking about a piece of auxiliary equipment? I've always wondered about this procedure.

I've never used it, but it sounds like if you used a third party voicemail with the system it could label the extensions as Auto-attendant so you'd know the call was coming out from the AA. With Partner Mail systems this already happens so it wouldn't be needed.

#607 is for using a Cobotyx Automated Attendant with the Partner. AT&T rebranded them back in the Partner Plus/Partner II days. The Cobotyx answers a call, plays a message, the caller makes input like a selector code or extension number, and the Cobotyx flashes, dials the destination, and then disconnects.
