Adding VM to an existing system. Customer was not ready for VM so I installed the R5 module without programming #206 (Group Call Distribution) or #505 (hunt group extensions). I noticed that when a call came in it rang once and AA answered and immediately sent the caller to Ext 10.

With out Group Call Distribution programed and an extension in Hunt Group Extensions how is it possible that the VM module is having the AA answer?

Because it's not the AA answering. Without the voicemail port extensions programmed into #505, they by default have all of the lines assigned with immediate ring. The voicemail ports are behaving as designed, answering ringing calls. What is NOT happening is mode codes being passed from the Partner to the voicemail, so not knowing what to do with the call, each port is playing "Transferring to Receptionist" and transferring to Ext. 10.

If you're going to leave the voicemail module installed without programming the port extensions into #505, you need to remove the lines in #301. But really, why not just do #505-7-26-1 and #5-7-27-1 and be done with it?
