All:

I recently had computer problems and had to remove Office 97(SR-2a)from my machine. When I reloaded it, I discovered that I couldn't import an Excel file through the Get External Data dialog. The ".xls" option is not in the list of importable file extensions.

What's happening? I selected all the Excel external data options when I reloaded Access. Did I miss something?

Ron,

I've had a couple of corporate installations turn out like that. Very weird that you should have to do anything at all to make Access play well with Excel.
I just did a complete install and it got it, though that doesn'e help you with the particular bit you need.
