Hey People,

Im a littel confused and would appreciate a bit of advice please :)

I've been asked to design a double sided a4 poster (full colour) for someone.

What i would like to know is what size i make my document, baring in mind that im going to be giving him the file on disk to give to his printers, so it needs to be right first time, or it could be embarassing.

Do i just set up and a4 page, and then put guides 5mm in on all sides for the bleed, and then keep all my actual text content etc inside the guides????????

Any advice or help would really be appreciated.

Hi,

I would suggest to make your paper size the regular A4. The question about the bleed then, If you made your poster layout and there are any images passing the paper size, don't worry about it, there are two possibilities.
1. You let the printers figure it out.
2. You do their work. This means that you make a ps or a pdf-file from your original layout. When printing the EPS file, change the paper size in your printer box to custom. Add 1 cm to the A4 size, check the add printer marks option, also check the option center the page. This way your A4 will be printed on a bigger paper size.
Hope this gives you an idea

Make the poster A4... allow the graphics to bleed 1/8" over all edges.. give the entire virgin PM file with garphics & fonts to the press. Most prepress would prefer this method.

Your best bet is to call the press people and ask them for their requirements.. this is standard practise, and they will tell you what they want. they may prefer a PDF and if so they will tell you settings, etc. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
