I'm attempting to start a small magazine, in which a page is simply half an A3 sheet(like NewScientist). I was wondering how you would go about designing. Do I just devide the width of an A3 297mm by two? And when I print it, how do I go about getting it to print on both sides? Thanks.

Set up your document in the page size as it will be read i.e. portrait A4.

Make sure you have the total number of pages equal to a multiple of 4 (or introduce blank pages to make it up to that number). Lay out your publication showing facing pages i.e. what the readers will see. 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, etc

When complete, run the 'Build Booklet' plug-in (under the Utilities menu) specifying a spread size of 420 x 297mm (A3 size), and choose 2-up saddle stitch layout. The plug-in will create a new document, imposing the pages in the correct order. Make sure you save the new doc with a new name as you cannot reverse the imposition if you want to make changes to the original.

To duplex print the final document, your printer must be able to handle A3 paper and either must have a duplex function, or you will have to do it manually.

If you haver any more questions, please ask, but here is a good reference if you get any error messages:
