........Hello to all
Forgive me if i post it to wrong forum, but since i use it on XP.......:).
I need to add some restrictions to pcs localy.I need my users to belong to user group, but i need them to run some softwares. We use a local software for getting info from a db, and i cant run it as a user.I need to trace where the program needs access to so i give the user specific rights. Is there a way to trace that down?
Also can i do it through group policies?Give right to user to run specific programs.......Or any other sugestion......
Thanx

Will something like Process Monitor allow you to trace what your program accesses and writes to?

Process Monitor v1.37

Are you able to contact the programs Help and Support, or even the Author, concerning the details you require?

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Software Restriction Policies

Description of the Software Restriction Policies in Windows XP

This was a handy program to know about, it has been discontinued but can still be found on the Internet. It will allow an user to run a single program as an Administrator.

If you are not using a server, then all machines MUST be XP Pro or above. It also cannot be Visa home basic. Xp and Vista home will not allow access to users and groups.

If thes requirements are met, refer to the following knowledge base entry from microsoft.

You will have to do this per machine. Depending on the number of machines you have, you may want to look into a windows server setup where eveyone accesses a domain and has their policies handed down from there. It is also a good idea for a backup solution as well.

Guys thanx a lot for ur replies.........iam checking the links while ia posting.Cause it was a pain in the beeeeepp....I had to work last night. What i did i gave the user power user rights(software worked fine$,..%Y&U%^$%).Then i applied some local policies to restrict those i wanted. We do have a domain, but they dont want our users to log on on too the domain. That would save me a lot of time. What i guess that i must do now i would copy/push the registry.pol to the appropriate place for each user and hopefully its gonna be ok. Again thanx
