A table that refuses to be copied 3

Access has decided not to let the main table in the database be copied. If I try, it says "The Microsoft Jet Engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change data at the same time."

Unless there's a ghost with a computer, no-one is using the db. I close it down, shut down, start again, do anything I can think of, but Access clings on.

Anyone had this problem before? Anyone found an answer please?

Thanks, Reg, but that doesn't do it. I can copy the whole db which is what I did to remain on the safe side but this does seem very strange. Cheers

(I want to thank you with a star, but an error on the page remains.)

Hey Kupe,

I'm having the same problem only I got a bit further. I was able to get DTS to run, but it still didn't recreate the database.table that I was trying to populate. I discoverd that the people who created the database had just imported the data using DTS directly from Access and performed a created database using the create db wizard, they just let the SQL Server perform a "very generic" db build. I've been trying to reload a table for the majority of the day (I'm new here).

...a long shot.

...you and another user are attempting to change data at the same time

Is it possible that this is an audit or security table and is open, perhaps through a hidden form, or part of a menu that opens the table?

I can't blame anyone else. It's my table. It contains restricted information, that's true, Richard (willer), and there are only administrator restrictions on access to the db files.

rdkirb49 suggested that database exclusive might be the cause, and that prompted me to tick the appropriate box, but otherwise I've set no security rules. (It is Hidden, with just a form appearing for the User.)

So if this mysterious thing applies to one table, it must apply to others. But no. I can make new tables in the db and copy them easily. Then I won't be able to rename the 'secure' table? Yes I can, and have. But this 'security' message appears even on it.

I suppose the answer is - and I might try it later - to copy the lot into a new db, thinking that perhaps something has glitched in tblSys or the like.

Thanks for your suggestions, gentle craftsmen. Cheers all.
