A small grumble with PS7

Hi,

In PS6, you could select a text layer and the character panal would display the properties for that layer, font, size weight etc. Select another text layer and the properties would change acordingly. This saved you having to select the T tool, highlight the text etc etc.

PS7 seems not to do this, when you select a text layer it gives you the properties for that layer. Select another text layer and the properties for the last text layer are still there, no change.

Do you think this is a bug, the way they've done it this time or is there some other way to select a text layer and have the properties change accordingly in the character panal?

Thanks for your time.

I'm not sure I understand, but I don't think I experience that problem.

I have a canvas with 3 layers, a graphic layer and 2 text layers (font sizes 22 and 35). When I switch back and forth bewteen layers, the character panel reflects the atributes of the new text layer.

Are you saying that you don't see the change?

Yep, that's right, you did understand me. :)

I have 2 text layers.

1st 12pt, bold;
2nd 10pt regular;

I click the 1st, atributes are correct for that layer.

I click the 2nd, the atributes display the same as the 1st although they are clearly not.

Do you think this may call for a reinstall?

Sorted! LOL

Seems that if you dock it in the space at the top right (where the file browser is) then it does what it was doing to me. I just undocked it and it now picks up the changes as I click from layer to layer.
[rofl]

Thanks anyway.

A very happy PS user, again!

I don't get your problem at all, docked or undocked!

Do you push the arrow key first then the text key then select a new layer? Also when I have the text key selected and just click b/w the layers with text being highlighted, it shows the differences. Maybe you should try re-installing Photoshop 7 and see if the problem goes away.

oops, I meant:

b/w the layers with text being unhighlighted

not

b/w the layers with text being highlighted

I don't get what this means. What's arrow key and text key?

Sorry, not key, button. Did you select a layer, then push the arrow button (on the toolbar), then select the text button (on the toolbar), and then select a different layer.

Sorry for the confusion.

No, I'll be working on one text layer (lets say a range of text buttons on an interface, all on individual layers), I'll change it from bold to regular. I then click another text layer to do the same thing to this and the character panel displays the properties for the text layer I just edited. This is how I worked in PS6 and so was a little bewildered that it didn't work in 7. But like I said, I undocked it and it works fine, just the way I like it. :)

I don't like having to select the text tool and highlight the text just to change things like bold, italics etc. Unless of course it's in a paragraph.
