A service control operation failed for the MSSQL Server service:

hey folks,

dunno if i posted this in the correct forum:
if not, my apologies...

here is my issue:

I've been installing SQLServer 2000 personal edition several times on different pc, but i am stuck when i install it in one of my friend's pc.. here is my friend's pc configuration:

Pentium 4 1.5G
256 RDRAM
40G HD partitioned 10-30
win2k professional edition
no network card:

I got this problem during setup :
"A service control operation failed for the MSSQL Server service: 267
The directory is invalid"


I already installed the same software on win98 pentium III without network card and twas working...

any sugestions?....or does anybody encountered the same and did some work around?
