So I read on the CompTIA website that there are 100 questions for the Essential portion with a minimum pass score of 675 and 80 questions for the IT tech portion witha min pass score of 700. Could someone tell me about what percentage of the questions I need to answer correct or how many point each question is worth?

Anyone's attempt to explain CompTIA's scoring would be a best guess effort (including mine).

I was at CompTIA last month for an DHTI+ SME meeting and I specifically asked Carl Bowman, manager of exam development, how they score their exams. He ever so politely explained to me that CompTIA keeps scoring for the exams purposfully vague. This is part of their exam security procedures.

You should approach the exam with the intent of correctly answering each question. If this requires additional study, get hot.

Ok well while I have the post open I would like to ask a few more basic questions.

1) 2003 or 2006 or does it matter?
2) Vouchers on ebay; are they ok to use?
3) Study Material? I have the CompTIA certified
book from my A+ class last year will it be ok
or outdated?

2003 is the 2 exam format (Core & OS)
2006 will go to the single Essentials exam and then another exam for your "specialty".

Be very careful of vouchers from ebay.

Your materials should be good for the 2003 exams. Not sure how the 2006 exams will shape up yet. Check out free materials from &

Glister,
Care to go into any detail about DHTI+? Sounds like a specialty exam off the HTI. Maybe towards "digital"?

DHTI+ will be the revamped replacement for HTI+, although I think it looks very much like the original HTI+ (more home theater, networking and less electricity and HVAC). The biggest news is the coordination with the Consumer Electronics Assoc. (CEA). The CEA will be a major sponsor of the new exam and will go a long way to promoting it in the professional ranks. Look for an announcement from them when the exam is rolled out. DHTI+ will be the new industry standard for all the guys from BestBuy (GeekSquad)and CircuitCity (Firedogs)-(both represented on the SME panel).

Watch for the beta announcement because we were told the beta would be offered for free.
