My A/R aging balance does not equal my A/R G/L balance. The amount of the difference varies each month.

After reviewing the g/l detail report, there are only the daily standard "A/R cash receipts" and "S/O Invoice" entries. There are no general journal or transaction journal entries hitting the A/R account.

Historically, there has been a difference for many years back before I took over the department.

Any ideas?

You should be using the Trial Balance report and NOT the Aging Report. You can use the Trial Balance report to reconcile your general ledger to the balance of the Accounts Receivable account. The Aged Invoice Report uses the invoice date or due date specified in Accounts Receivable Options. The Trial Balance Report uses the transaction date (accounting date). If the Aged Invoice Report and the Trial Balance Report do not balance to each other, one or more invoices may have an invoice date and a transaction date that are not in the same period.

Thanks. After running the Trial Balance for each month in 2008, I find that the t/b does not = g/l balance. Also, neither amount = the a/r aging (no surprise).

The amount of the differences each month vary, so this looks like a current and on-going problem. Again after reviewing the g/l detail, there are no other entry types than S/O Invoice and Cash Receipts.
