Thanks in advance,

I am deciding on a barcode with a client. The barcode needs to be alphanumeric. Our debate is wether we *really* need a checkdigit.

Am I correct in understanding that if we don't go with a checkdigit Code 39 is going to do the trick but if I need a checkdigit Code 128 is the better way to go?

The barcodes are going to be used internally, between their different warehouses.

What is the advantage to going with a check digit if I am just using it internally?

We will be using Bartender or some other midware, I understand that they will create the checkdigit for me, but what calculation do I use when reading the barcode to ensure that the digit is accurate? If I have a checkdigit I should be checking it, right?

Thanks

Andrew

Correct.
The digit is accurate the barcode wil either scan or it won't
If its wrong it won't scan.
no software will make a invalid barcode.
Don't base barcode selection on whether you need a check digit or not just decide what kind of barcode you need.

Code39 is most widely used becasue it is a one for one barcode. Code39 fonts are great and can be used in any program Word Excel or what ever.

Code128 requires and function or a program to generate the check digit.
