Hi,

Is it possible to do the following on a UNIX server.

Can we point a particular directory (e.g $HOME/incoming_data/) in UNIX file system so that points to a particular directory ( e.g Z:/documents/outgoing_data ) on a SHARED windows server. The crux of this is , say there has been a new txt file that has been added onto Z:/documents/outgoing_data in Windows Server, it should reflect in
UNIX directory ($HOME/incoming_data/ ).. All the changes like incoming new files, deleteing old files in WIndows server should reflect on UNIX server.

I have read somewhere this can be done by using Mount points, Little unsure of how to do them exactly. Any help is highly appreciated

Thanks a lot for your help,

You may ask on the Samba forum. You could mount the Samba share on the Win Server, but I don't if you'd run into problems re-exporting it.

linux server = yes
unix server = maybe
if your *nix server understands the smbfs filesystem type.
of course this is for windows shares, you could do it the other way around and load unix services for windows on the windows server and export z:/documents/outgoing_data as an nfs filesystem which is then mountable on the unix system.
